Distinguished and Famous people from Frankston

🌿 Dame Elisabeth Murdoch

Dame Elisabeth Murdoch made Cruden Farm at Langwarrin a family home, a major garden and a setting for charitable work. Given to her by Keith Murdoch in 1928, the property developed over decades alongside support for medical research, the arts, education and community causes. Open days and events brought visitors into the garden while raising funds. Her wider philanthropy reached far beyond Frankston, but Cruden Farm supplies a specific local foundation: a place she shaped and repeatedly shared with the community.

🏛️ Gordon Bryant

Gordon Bryant attended Frankston High School and won a teaching scholarship in 1930. Teaching and wartime service preceded his election to federal parliament in 1955. He became a prominent advocate for Aboriginal rights and later a minister in the Whitlam government. His interest in politics had appeared early: at school, representing Labor in a mock election, he won the classroom ballot. The later career was far more demanding, combining committee work, campaigns and ministerial responsibilities with the persistence of an outspoken former teacher.
